Summary: Brock missed out on his summer of girls, bikini season is over and they have gone into hibernation. It’s the Summer’s End Festival, but Team Rocket doesn’t see anything to exploit, luckily the old lady detective is on the case. Brock and James both see a maiden, on the rocks and in a painting. Cue the sad music, Brock and James are awestruck, and a bit possessive. Meowth hatches a plan to steal a painting, the maiden appears, and both Brock and James are lured out to the edge of the peak, Team Rocket and our friends shock them back to reality, just as soon as they get back, Brock falls into the haze. The old lady charges Ash and the crew for anti-ghost stickers. Our crew lays in waiting, and the Maiden comes, James is scared, really really scared. Jessie goes on a well-deserved feminist rant, and Meowth wants some fish. The Maiden responds with some ghoulish tactics, Pokémon fusion (VENUSTOISE!!!), and a mongoose. All along, the maiden and the old lady were Gastly. Misty brings tools for a vampire assault, but when the sun comes up Gastly bounces. All along he was just trying to keep the maiden’s memory alive. Team Rocket ends the episode playing some taiko, Ash learns about ghost Pokémon, and Misty is beautiful.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Gastly, I mean come on, this dude pulled out all of the stops.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Brock and James, they lost themselves, and their dignity all in one episode.
One thing I learned: Gastly can talk to spirits, and make money
Pikachu-o-meter: 3/5, he wakes up Brock, which is something.
Best Quote: “Who am I? I am Brock.” -Brock
Best Scene: The candles, and the maiden being sent out to sea.
