Pokemon 32: The Ninja-Poke Showdown

Pokemon Company

Airdate: November 4th, 1997

Summary: Misty offers Brock Psyduck for Vulpix, the worst trade offer in history, meanwhile a Venonat is peeping our heroes. Somehow, they have to cross a plank to find Fuchsia Gym, a huge mansion in the middle of nowhere. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill mansion, it’s filled with trick mirrors, slanted floors and booby traps. Ash almost falls to his death, subsequently enters a room only to get ninja-starred. Iya, the ninja warrior, is the one that threw them, and she challenges Ash to a battle. Ash’s Bulbasaur Leech seeds Venonat into oblivion. Koga explodes on the scene, Brock tries to kiss-up to Koga, and Ash tries to challenge Iya’s brother. Team Rocket has their sites on the mansion, Ash and Koga start their battle. Koga brings out a Venonat, who promptly evolves into a Venomoth. Pidgeotto (criminally underrated), loses to Venomoth. Ash brings Charmander next, but Team Rocket enters Kabuki stage left. They bring out Arbok and Weezing, and Team Rocket has a sticky surprise. Psyduck saves the day with its psychic powers after getting bashed in the head over and over. I might call Pokémon PEDA on Misty.  Everyone wants Psyduck, but she wouldn’t give them up for the world… now that Misty knows their power. Ash and Koga finished up their match, and Charmander owns Golbat, Ash has badge #6!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Charmander, strong showing from our favorite lizard.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Venonat, gets zapped by Bulbasaur.

One thing I learned: Voltorb double as crucial members of any security team.

Pikachu-o-meter: 2/5, This was a Bulbasaur and Charmander episode.

Best Quote: “Born in darkness, living in darkness, thus is the life of a Ninja warrior” -Iya

Best Scene: Iya’s entrance.
