Pokemon 39: Pikachu’s Goodbye

Pokemon Company

Airdate: April 16th, 1998

Summary: Cute little Pikachu is just sitting in a tree, eating an apple, while Ash pulls a George of the Jungle and slams into a tree. But what’s this?! It’s a whole crew of Pikachu who are suspicious of Ash’s buddy. Pikachu is depressed, but a little young Pikachu makes acquaintance, and shakes tails. Ash comes and spoils the moment, Pikachu had some Pika-friends, and now they are gone. Later on, the little Pikachu gets trapped in some rapids coming to a waterfall, and with the other Pika pals, our Pikachu saves the day. Team Rocket scopes all of the Pikachu, and the Pikachu do a moon song and dance. Brock suggests it’s the best thing for Pikachu to be among its own kind. In the middle of the night, Team Rocket snatches all of the Pikachu with a net, but Pikachu and the gang send Team Rocket flying, once again our favorite Pika pal is the hero. Ash catches him in an embrace, and their relationship is stronger than ever. Pikachu wants to celebrate with its new friends, reveling in the power of Pikachu. Ash has decided to let Pikachu be with its new friends, in the forest protecting the other Pikachu. He starts to walk away, and says goodbye to Pikachu. Queue the sappy song, what a montage. I’m not crying, you are. Ash is really looking out for his bud, but Pikachu is not done with Ash just yet. Our favorite rodent is Ash’s buddy for good, and the other Pikachu wish him well.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, he lets Pikachu go even if it kills him.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, fuck you guys.

One thing I learned: Ash and Pikachu love each other.

Pikachu-o-meter: 5/5, a top-5 Pikachu episode ever.

Best Quote: “That means all these Pikachu are actually our property!” -Team Rocket

Best Scene: Either the Pikachu moon dance, or the final scene.
