Summary: Ash and his friends are in Grandpa Canyon, where they stumble upon a group of amateur and professional archaeologists. Gary stat staking chunks out of the earth, thinks he found a fossil, but its just Pokémon manure. Team Rocket joins the fray, planning to blow up the canyon to… find some fossils? This is a half-baked plan at best. Squirtle and Ash race to stop the fuse before it blows, but James trips and sends Ash, Pikachu, and all of Team Rocket into the canyon thanks to Pikachu’s Thundershock. Squirtle avoided the fall, and Jigglypuff’s sound stage gets picked apart. As Ash and Team Rocket start to freak out about their predicament, a band of prehistoric Pokémon wakes up. Kabuto, Kabutops, Omanyte, and Omastar are not happy. Ash throws out Charmeleon to help battle these fossils, but he is going to pass for now. After being chased around the cavern, the fossils run flee from Aerodactyl. This fossilized bird is out for blood, and Charmeleon is up to the task until he gets knocked out. Aerodactyl pulls Ash and Pikachu out of the canyon, and Aerodactyl gives Charmander the stink eye. Charmander evolves into Charizard to fly up and take Aerodactyl on. They battle, Charizard burns Ash, and Jigglypuff comes in clutch with its song. Everyone wakes up from a deep slumber, and Officer Jenny censors the whole event. Ash has an egg, what’s up with that?
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Charizard, what a majestic lizard.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Gary, cool manure bro.
One thing I learned: All Jigglypuff needs is a stage and a captive audience.
Pikachu-o-meter: 4/5, solid effort this episode.
Best Quote: “If you fall asleep, we will both…” -Ash
Best Scene: The aerial battle between Charizard and Aerodactyl.
