Airdate: July 9th, 1998
Summary: It’s the Princess Festival, and today the women rule the roost. The gang and Team Rocket have to do whatever Jessie and Misty want. Brock tries to ask out a mom, and Misty spots a major sale. Jessie spots a Lickitung, who takes all of Jessie’s food. Jessie is big mad, and decides to use Arbok to catch it, Arbok gets licked by Jessie catches it anyways. A loudspeaker announces the Princess Festival Competition, Misty and Jessie wager a doll collection. Our announcers are a shape-shifting salary man and an Italian drink of coffee, yes, he’s motto Bella. Misty and Jessie look beautiful, but they are ready for some fierce battling. Cappuccino is an underrated Kanto sex symbol. Misty asks Brock and Ash to borrow Vulpix, Bulbasaur and, Pikachu so she can have a diverse group of Pokémon, she really wants that doll set. She only got hand-me-downs… what a horrible life. In her first match Misty beats a Kingler with Bulbasaur, she really knows how to handle Water Pokémon. Jessie took James’ Pokémon and Meowth to use in the tournament. Jessie loses with Meowth, but Jessie and Misty move through the bracket and all the way to the top. Its Jessie versus Misty, and sparks are flying. Meowth has a gun, where did he get that gun? Jessie engages in a morose flashback, she never got anything (more relatable than Misty). Jessie gets down early, but Lickitung makes a strong debut beating Pikachu and Vulpix. Psyduck enters the fray as Misty’s last Pokémon, our duck is impervious to Lick attack, but their psychic powers kick in just in time. Misty gets her doll set, and sends it back home to spite her sisters.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Jessie, what a streak of quotes lately, she has been thoroughly enjoyable.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Misty, she battled well, but her final match and her spiting her sisters was a bit annoying.
One thing I learned: Italian beefcakes are good Pokémon battle announcers too.
Pikachu-o-meter: 2/5, got whopped by that Lickitung, embarrassing.
Best Quote: “Now I’m going to give my credit cards a good workout” -Jessie
Best Scene: Meowth and Jessie’s staredown.
