Pokemon 53: The Purr-fect Hero

Pokemon Company

Airdate: July 8th, 1998

Summary: It’s Children’s Day, and the water Pokémon banners are flying. Ash and Brock define masculinity for teenagers, yikes. Some trainers were supposed to visit a preschool the gang walks past, and the teacher asks them if they the kids can play with their Pokémon. James and Jessie lament the past, well at least Jessie does, and the kids start playing with the gang’s Pokémon. The Children love playing with the Pokémon, but Timmy is off by himself. Timmy only wants to meet a Meowth, the same kind of Pokémon that saved him from a Beedrill. Timmy has some preschool bullies, sad. Team Rocket rolls in with a Pokémon magic show with an aim to trap Pikachu. Team Rocket try their motto after pulling the trick, but the children get in their way, pulling Jessie’s hair. Reiko, the teacher, goes from 0-100 yelling for the kids to get inside, while Weezing lays a Smokescreen. Team Rocket peels out but before they leave Timmy ends up in the box. Timmy thinks Meowth is a hero, and Team Rocket gets a but full of themselves. Meowth and Team Rocket fake an attack by Jessie and James, Meowth brings Timmy back to the school. Will this trick work? Meowth’s cover gets blown, Team Rocket attacks, but Timmy’s Meowth saves the day! Will the real slim kitty please stand up? Meowth says he didn’t want to be the hero, but he is destroyed inside. On to the next one.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Timmy, what a sweet kid, all he wanted was a friend Meowth.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Jessie and James, they got crazy ideas in Meowth’s head again.

One thing I learned: Meowth either loves kids or loves attention, or both.

Pikachu-o-meter: 2/5, eh.

Best Quote: “Quiet you braaaaaaaats” -Reiko

Best Scene: Meowth’s hero fantasy montage.
