Airdate: September 3rd, 1998
Summary: Ash, Misty and Brock are in Viridian City, and decide to take a detour to Cerulean City to cheer Horsea up. They visit the Cerulean Sisters, and Misty gets coerced into playing the lead in their underwater ballet. They waterboard Misty into accepting it, telling her the tickets are sold out and the show is tomorrow. The girls explain the plot, and Misty wants a stand-in. Team Rocket plans on stealing the Pokémon actors in the show. The crowd is full, the play starts, and Misty looks beautiful in her costume. Is that Staryu’s music?! HYUUUUUUUU!! Misty swims with her aquatic friends and uses the rock formations well. Team Rocket play the villains, and James is in a cheeky pink swan costume, what a man. Misty realizes the real threat of Team Rocket, but it plays to the audience as great musical theatre. Meowth busts in with the Team Rocket balloon and start to net some Goldeen. Ash in his very 90’s jeans and black shirt jump in to save the day. Misty takes the lead and Horsea tries Arbok to little success, while Seaking gives Arbok a successful Horn Attack. Weezing gets drowned, and Misty’s sisters try and help by sending in Psyduck, who doesn’t know how to swim, nice. Ash chooses Squirtle, who teams with Seaking and Starmie to tackle Arbok. Seel saves the day with its bravery, and I’m not talking about Heidi Klum’s ex-husband. Seel uses Aurora beam, and evolves into Dewgong. Dewgong freezes Team Rocket and Pikachu sends them flying. Horsea leaves Horsea and Starmie with her sisters, but keeps Psyduck and Togepi. Misty is still on that bike issue, Ash will never escape.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Misty, a good string of Misty episodes recently.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: The Cerulean Sisters, they really played Misty, she does too much for them.
One thing I learned: Team Rocket are huge fans of underwater theatre.
Pikachu-o-meter: 4/5, love a Togepi-saving moment and a Team Rocket sendoff.
Best Quote: “I took some modern dance when I was a young lad” -James
Best Scene: The shift from play to the real threat from Team Rocket.
