Pokemon 71: Lights, Camera, Quack-tion!

Pokemon Company

Airdate: November 5th, 1998

Summary: Ash and the gang are heading down the road… is that… Jiggly’s music… why?! They run across a lovely Pokémon trainer named Katrina, who has a Raichu. Just as Raichu and Pikachu start to battle, Team Rocket catches Raichu, only to be stopped by a movie director. This man is conducting a talent search for their next movie, but he is only using Pokémon. A Wigglytuff is the star of the show, but there is room for a co-lead. Ash, Brock, Misty, Jessie, James, and Meowth put their Pokémon in the ring. The Pokémon but on a Chip and Dale’s SNL skit-level performance. All of their Pokémon move on to the next round, but Jigglypuff gives our actors a sleepy intermission. When they wake up, Team Rocket’s Pokémon screw the pooch, and Arbok and Weezing are devastated. Misty throws shade at Psyduck, but they win the part. The director, Mr. Schpielbunk, explains the Romeo and Juliet-esque love story of Psyduck and Wigglytuff. Ash and Brock show their soft underbelly, and decide to help the director. Team Rocket give their Pokémon a pep talk, and decide to co-opt the film. Pidgeotto gives the set a gust (what a criminally underrated Pokémon, and Staryu provides the rain, HYUUUUUUUU! The families fight, and Team Rocket has made it to center stage. Wigglytuff and the families get caught by Team Rocket, but in all the confusion Psyduck unlocks its psychic powers, and sends Team Rocket flying. Wigglytuff says goodbye to Psyduck, and Ash is happy he met a new friend.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Arbok and Weezing, when they show their personalities its perfect.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Jigglypuff, I am done with your shit Jiggly, this bit is old.

One thing I learned: Psyduck is a leading man.

Pikachu-o-meter: 4/5, pretty good Pikachu episode.

Best Quote: “Psyduck, you’re too dumb to know how dumb you are” -Misty

Best Scene: The first shot of the families feuding.
