Pokemon 74: The Ancient Pokemopolis

Pokemon Company

Airdate: November 26th, 1998

Summary: Ash and Brock are training Pikachu with Brock’s Vulpix, and they blast a hole into a ruin. Is… that… Jiggly’s… music… ughhhhhh. Anyways, they discover an ancient treasure, and this French lass, Eve, says she found the treasure. Eve and her crew set up camp, and don’t acknowledge our gangs contribution to this research, there will be lawsuits. Eve got a PhD at eight, I don’t totally doubt her, but her initial actions cast some doubt on her achievements. But hey, this is Pokémon World, where 9-year old’s get PhD’s and… wait, get trapped in ancient Pokémon times by waving a spoon? This trick gets activated when Team Rocket try and steal the artifacts, from the temple with Arbok. The device captures all of the researchers, as well as the gang and Eve. The dark device opens this world to an ancient Pokémon, where a giant Gengar is wreaking havoc on the forest before Pallet Town. Pidgeotto tries to stop Gengar but gets captured inside its belly, what a criminally underrated Pokémon. Everything this Gengar touches turns to food, sort of. Eve is possessed by the spoon, and an Alakazam emerges out of the spoon. After a long battle, Ash tries to catch them, but they freeze Ash and the gang. Jigglypuff pulls out its microphone and starts singing, but Gengar and Alakazam are not affected. Jigglypuff is the third ancient Pokémon in the equation, and now this Jiggly’s song helps the ancient Pokémon return to their ancient state. But not before marking all of their faces, of course. Does this finally mean the end of Jigglypuff? We hope so.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Alakazam and Gengar, they didn’t ask to be brought into the future, but their battle is fucking epic.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Eve, she knows a lot, but that move in the beginning, paired with her lack of help solving the mysteries of the dark device until it is almost too late leaves much to be desired.

One thing I learned: Let sleeping ancient Pokémon lie.

Pikachu-o-meter: 3/5, at least they are training.

Best Quote: “Brock must love mysteries” -Eve “He loves something…” -Ash

Best Scene: The Alakazam and Gengar battle.
