Summary: Ash and crew leave early for the Indigo Plateau. Otoshi, a young man training for the Pokémon League challenges Ash, who after a moment’s consideration accepts. Otoshi sends out a Marowak, who defeats Bulbasaur. Marowak is no match for Pikachu, and somehow Ash wins the match even though he sent out 2 Pokémon, and Bulbasaur lost, and Otoshi only lost 1 Pokémon… This happens a few times, and it makes no sense. Anyways, Otoshi explains that he worked hard for his eight badges, but they got stolen by Team Rocket. Ash and the crew agree to steal the badges back. Jessie stole the stolen badges from James and Meowth, her vanity knows no bounds. Pidgeotto searches for Team Rocket, what an underrated bird. They find Meowth and James, and our favorite bird wrecks our hapless boys. Misty makes James and Meowth do inventory on everything in the balloon. Marowak is pissed that Otoshi got his badges stolen, Marowak is cutting bait. James and Meowth scout Jessie, James uses his stylistic skills to spot Jessie. Jessie and Meowth accept Jessie back, and Otoshi and gang challenge Team Rocket for his badges back. Jessie uses Arbok and Otoshi uses Doduo. Marowak sees a group of trainers playing with their Pokémon, and they get nostalgic for Otoshi. Marowak saves Doduo from itself, and saves Otoshi’s badges. Otoshi and Marowak are bonded closer than ever, and Ash and crew made a new friend.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Pidgeotto, a criminally underrated bird.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Jessie, she turned her back on Team Rocket, what a disgrace.
One thing I learned: The pair that trains together stays together.
Pikachu-o-meter: 3/5, a good Pikachu sendoff.
Best Quote: “Well you see I like to look at myself in my spare time” -James
Best Scene: Marowak’s memories of Otoshi.
