Pokemon 83: Pallet Party Panic

Pokemon Company

Airdate: January 28th, 1999

Summary: Ash says thank you to everyone who supported him. Everyone lets their Pokémon out, but Brock and Misty prevent Ash from taking out Charizard. Ash goes to some food vendors, Team Rocket, who give everyone the hottest food known to man. Team Rocket show themselves, and end up getting a taste of their own medicine. Team Rocket has a trick up their sleeve, as they try and take Pikachu. Pidgeotto tries to stop Team Rocket, but to no avail. Ash brings out Charizard, but the only thing that will get Charizard to care about helping Ash is for Team Rocket to destroy his food. Team Rocket drop in on a group of Pidgey and Pidgeotto who are being encircled by Spearow and Fearow. Professor Oak helps heal Pidgeotto, and tells the kids about a trip he wants them to go on to Valencia Island to bring back the GS ball. On the way to the port, Ash and his friends run into a Fearow, who is out for Ash’s blood. It turns out this Fearow was the one that Ash hit with a rock in the first episode. Ash and Pikachu drop in on Team Rocket’s meet up with Pidgeotto, and Team Rocket is game to help. Ash then sends Team Rocket from the tree, and brings Pidgeotto out to convince the other birds to fly. Once they do, Fearow takes out Pidgeotto, but it comes back stronger than ever, evolving into a Pidgeot…. Soooooo… cooool! Ash takes off on Pidgeot’s back to fight Fearow. Pidgeot sends a powerful Gust, a lethal Quick Attack, but Fearow won’t be caught. All of the Pidgeotto and Pidgey stand up to Fearow. In the end, Ash decides to leave Pidgeot to take care of their new friends. A ten feather salute to Pidgeot!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Pidgeotto/Pidgeot, what a sendoff for our favorite bird, what a criminally underrated Pokémon!!!

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, they tried to spoil the Pidgeotto episode, but they didn’t, and that’s what matters.

One thing I learned: Pidgeot is Ash’s best flying type Pokémon.

Island Monitor: No Island this week, it’s just Pallet Town.

Best Quote: “They never catch a break, do they?” -Misty

Best Scene: Pidgeotto evolving.
