Summary: Ash and the crew ride on Lapras from Pokémon Park to Mikan Island to get some food and a match with an Orange League Gym. Team Rocket follow Ash but capsize. Ash brings Lapras in for some treatment and call Prof. Oak. Tracy reveals his love for Prof. Oak. Ash finds a coconut, but gets showered by a spiky-haired boy. His sister, Sissy, is the Orange League leader and she accepts Ash’s challenge. Sissy challenges Ash to a variety of water-based contests. First up, a Water Gun challenge between Seadra and Squirtle. Seadra hits the target dead center, and Squirtle counters. Now the targets are moving, Tracy draws the domestic dragon Pokémon while they hit those targets. Squirtle hits the targets as well, and in a quickdraw contest they both hit the target. Now it’s time for the final challenge, a Pokémon wave ride. Ash and Lapras face Sissy and Blastoise. Team Rocket shows up before the match, and jump into action, but Ash and the crew aren’t even listening to the motto. They tell their sob story of their underwater excursions. They try and catch Blastoise, but this turtle can handle their shit just fine. Blastoise blasts them, and then races Lapras. The race is on, and each water Pokémon is flying through the ocean, when Blastoise gives Ash a good bump. Lapras catches Ash, and both Pokémon are halfway there. They go back and forth, but a huge wave is breaking. Lapras freezes it with an Ice Beam while Blastoise catches Sissy. Lapras decides to Ice Beam its way to the finish, beating Blastoise by a nose. Ash has his first badge!
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, another great episode, helping Lapras to beat a Blastoise, and beating the leader at her own game.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, they capsized too easily.
One thing I learned: Water Pokémon are so fucking cool, my second favorite type.
Island Monitor: Pokémon Park -> Mikan Island
Best Quote: “Just what are you observing?” -Misty
Best Scene: Lapras skating on the ice.
