Airdate: March 25th, 1999
Summary: A boat speeds by Lapras and splashes it, Ash and friends decide to follow. It turns out the media is trying to uncover a Kabuto mystery. A bunch of archaeologists believe they found a Kabuto fossil, Nurse Joy is the main researcher. Joy’s team ventures into the jungle with some Machoke, and the Machoke stop a boulder from hitting them. The boulder gets thrown off the cliff almost hitting Team Rocket. Rhydon start drilling into the earth, while a mystery person seems to be trying to sabotage the dig. Ash and Pikachu find the saboteur, a scruffy man who wants to protect the Kabuto. The man also thinks the Kabuto will rise up, and hurt others on the island. One of the research assistants finds some Kabuto fossils. They follow him, and the whole cave is full of Kabuto fossils. Team Rocket blast in, and proclaim that they will take all of the Kabuto. These fossil Pokémon have been stolen, and the reporters are feeling that their ratings will go sky high. The Kabuto wake up and fill the cave with red eyes, the old man, Umberto, yells for everyone to run for it. Umberto moves everyone to the forest, where they construct a raft to get on while the island is flooded. Lapras, Goldeen, Squirtle, and Staryu (HYUUUUU!!!!), pull the raft to safety. The island falls into the ocean, and Nurse Joy apologizes to Umberto. The reporter says nobody should know this secret.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Machoke, saving our crew from being trampled by a boulder.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, making a bad situation worse with an explosion. Nothing new here.
One thing I learned: Sometimes science is harmful, and it takes ethical research to keep the integrity of the subject.
