Pokemon 92: Stage Fight

Pokemon Company

Airdate: April 1st, 1999

Summary: Our friends go on a showboat, cut to a fighting scene where a Hitmonchan and a Machoke are fighting for a Clefable’s affection, speaking human. The scene is part of a Pokémon show, while our friend watch Togepi runs to the back of the stage. It turns out that the Pokémon are being voiced by actors. They met Kay, who has a Raichu who has a strained relationship with her Raichu. Ash is asked to help Kay work with electric Pokémon. Kay gets advice from Ash, and Kay tries to run some liens with Raichu but it won’t listen to her. Ash tries to console Raichu, but it just shocks Ash. Raichu seems ashamed that it can’t control feeling scared and shocking others.  Kay remembers her first meeting with Raichu, where Raichu shocked Kay while hugging her. Team Rocket try and catch Raichu, but Kay comes and saves it, showing Raichu it can hug it without flinching. Team Rocket sing their motto in nautical themed costumes, pretty cool. Team Rocket has laced the boat with a bomb, and the showboat runners and our heroes give up and let Team Rocket control the situation. Roger and the crew of the showboat act out a play, fighting back against Team Rocket. Ash and the gang slip from their ropes, while Kay consoles Raichu, giving it the confidence to go and fight for the crew of the boat. Pikachu and Raichu send their Thunder and Mega Punch, sending Team Rocket flying into the night sky. Kay and Raichu have righted their relationship, and our heroes are off to another adventure, but not before helping Kay fill Roger’s place in the show, and helping themselves.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Raichu, it was the hero of our nautical journey!

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, they are really messing with Raichu when it’s having a bad day.

One thing I learned: It’s easy to fool Team Rocket.

Island Monitor: Fukuhara Island #4 -> The Showboat

Best Quote: “I should have figured it was you three who rocked the boat” -Ash

Best Scene: Team Rocket’s Nautical Entrance
