Pokemon 93: Bye Bye Psyduck

Airdate: April 8^th, 1999

Summary: Ash and the gang are sailing along, and Psyduck sinks into an inlet off the coast. All of the crew’s water Pokémon search for Psyduck, while Tracy Ash recognize that Misty actually loves Ash. A girl named Marina finds a Psyduck, and Misty thinks it is hers. According to Marina Psyduck is ready to evolve, both of them talk about how they love water Pokémon. Marina and Misty battle, it’s Tentacruel versus Goldeen. Misty’s Goldeen loses, but is impressive. Now its Staryu versus Tentacruel, HYUUUUUUU!!!! Staryu’s Swift attack downs Tentacruel, and Marina sends out a tough Psyduck in return who takes Staryu out. Misty tries to throw her Psyduck out, but Ash throws her bag in the water, missing her by a few feet. Golduck jumps out of the water, with a patented wink. Misty and Marina fawn over it, and Misty tries out Golduck’s power. It rides a wave like a boss, but before it can counter on Psyduck Team Rocket creates a whirlpool and traps Golduck. Team Rocket end up catching Marina’s Psyduck and Tentacruel, but Marina has a Starmie that she sends to retrieve her Pokémon. Misty sends Golduck out to help Starmie. Team Rocket tries to strike a deal with the crew, Pikachu for Tentacruel and Psyduck. Marina has no quit in her, and Golduck comes on the scene, using its psychic powers to send Arbok flying. This duck has some serious firepower. Speaking of fire, Golduck pulls Marina’s Pokémon from the wreckage of Team Rocket. Misty and Marina battle again, Its Golduck vs Starmie, these water Pokémon are tough with their Hyper Beams and Light Screens. Golduck flexes on Starmie, but it turns out Psyduck was in its Pokeball the whole time. It looks like Golduck just likes to show off to girls, a “Pokémon version of Brock.” Marina cheers Misty up, pointing at that Misty won battling with a wild Pokémon. 

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Golduck, that Pokémon is a powerfully handsome duck. 

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Misty, she got in over her head loving Golduck, and didn’t know which Psyduck was which. You have to be able to read your Pokémon’s heart. 

One thing I learned: Water Pokémon trainers tend to be fan girls.
