
Airdate: October 7th, 1999
Summary: It’s Ash versus Gary, and Gary’s Eevee has been raised very well. Brock officiates the match. Pikachu starts with a Quick attack, but Eevee looks like it didn’t feel a thing. Pikachu sends a Thunderbolt, but Eevee’s Double Team Take Down combo are too much. Pikachu counters with Agility but Eevee’s Skull Bash knocks Pikachu out. Gary’s training has paid off, but Gary isn’t satisfied. Gary praises Ash, which is a change of pace, and Ash promises a different result the next time they battle. Prof. Oak starts talking about the Johto League, and a new challenge ahead for Ash. They still can’t figure out how to open the GS Ball, and Professor Oak asks Ash to deliver the GS Ball to Kurt in Azalea Town. Brock is back! Prof. Oak advises Ash to go to New Bark Town, before they leave, they need to alert Delia that they are leaving. Delia wants them to go shopping and a tired Team Rocket runs into Gary in the road who ignores their motto. Delia and Prof. Oak eat with the kids, and Misty mentions Prof. Ivy do Brock’s dismay. Prof. Oak announces that Tracey will be his new assistant, while Team Rocket comes into Ash’s house to steal their food and steal Pikachu. Mr. Mime stands in their way, pushing them away from the garden, Scyther gives Tracey a great ending to his main story arc, cutting Pikachu loose to shock Team Rocket. Ash and Pikachu talk about their new adventure, and the chance to compete in the Johto League. Ash and the OG crew Misty and Brock leave for the Johto Region.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Gary, avoiding that sideshow has to be hard, what a boss move.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, he wasn’t terrible, but he still has a lot to learn. He didn’t look like the stud he was on Pummelo Island.
One thing I learned: Tracey is an ambitious dude, good on you my man.
