Pokemon Season 2 Superlatives and Review

Pokemon Company

Class Clown (Funniest Character): Tracey, give this man a sketch book and he might sketch Pokémon, or he might pull a Brock and appreciate more human beauty. His relationship with Ash and Misty was pure and unbridled fun. What a great character for this leg of the journey.

Pokemon Company

Most Likely to Succeed (Best Trainer/Pokémon): Ash, this boy showed some real growth that will carry over into the Johto League, it has to. Ash learned how to be adaptable, train right, and let his own battle style develop.

Pokemon Company

Most Athletic (Best Battle of the Season): Pikachu vs. Dragonite (Ep. 114 Enter the Dragonite)

What is there to say that can’t be explained by saying these three simple words: Pikachu defeated Dragonite.

Honorable Mention: Charizard vs. Poliwrath (Ep. 107 Charizard Chills)

Pokemon Company

Biggest Flirt (Brock’s Best Crush Award): Prof. Ivy, I know we are not supposed to say that name, but we were left wondering what her fate was. Brock was smitten, and they seemed like a good pair, until it all came crashing down.

Pokemon Company

Most Changed (Best Character Development): Charizard, starting out as a real asshole who didn’t respect Ash, finally comes to terms with its power and its relationship to Ash. Only by working with Ash can Charizard be as strong as possible.

Pokemon Company

Most Unforgettable (Best Episode): Ep. 111 The Wacky Watcher: This episode featured the smartest writing of the whole show so far, as well as the best one-episode character, Dr. Quackenpoker.

Pokemon Company

Prettiest Place (Best One-Episode Setting): Sunburst Island in Ep. 89 The Crystal Onix, the shot of the Onix’s fiery red scales is one of the best in this anime so far.

Pokemon Company

Overall Season Score: 9/10, This season was a continuation of the Indigo Plateau in many ways, even being categorized in some measures as a 60 or so Part 2 to the original series’ first 50 episodes. The edition of Tracey was pleasant, and the pattern of the stories seemed to have more life in some ways than the first season. There was not as many gyms, but at least Ash earned all of his badges fair and square this time. We also got the redemption of Ash and Charizard, along with Misty’s Poliwag and Ash’s Snorlax, two of my favorite Pokémon of the core trio. Ash claims one of his best victories in the whole anime in this season. This season loses one point for sidelining Brock.
