Airdate: November 4th, 1999
Summary: Team Rocket get caught in some vines, and have boulders thrown at them. The gang stumbles on a Donphan, what a cute elephant! Brock and Ash want to catch the Donphan, Brock uses Onix but Donphan gives it a nice Rollout attack. Ash sends out Heracross, who gives Donphan a good Tackle and Horn Attack combo. Ash gets reprimanded by a woman named Rochelle who Brock is very interested in. She is looking for Amberite with her Donphan. Team Rocket schemes a way to get Amberite and get rich quick by catching/stealing a Donphan. They stumble upon the baby Donphan after they set off fireworks and snatch it from Rochelle. They give Donphan a snack to get it in its good graces, while Rochelle and the gang look for Donphan. Zubat looks for Donphan, while it leads Team Rocket to a big pile of nothing. Rochelle calls her Donphan with her whistle. The gang finds Team Rocket. Brock sends out Onix to take out Victrebell, but Onix fails again, this rock snake kind off sucks. Poliwag and Heracross take Victrebell and Arbok on, sending them flying. Rochelle shows the gang how Donphan find Amberite, before Ash asks for a battle. Ash and Rochelle battle, its Heracross vs. Donphan, our favorite beetle gets some much-needed experience. This Donphan does not fuck around, it is fast while Heracross is frisky for some sap. Donphan ends it with a Rollout, but Heracross looked good. They have improved the episode pacing so far this season.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Rochelle, she has a whole cadre of Amberite sniffing Donphan, dope.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, so much wasted effort.
One thing I learned: Babies need some time to learn.
Who is that Pokémon?: Hoothoot, not as underrated as Pidgeotto, but close.
