Airdate: November 11th, 1999
Summary: The gang is lost in the forest as nightfall approaches. The gang gets spooked by some haunted trees, but Gary and a Hoothoot use Foresight to sniff out the haunts. Gary convinces them they need a Hoothoot, the gang sets off in search of one. They find a Hoothoot who has an attitude as it leads them to its caretaker’s house in the middle of… Stonehenge? Hoothoot attacks Ash the whole way, until they meet a little old lady who says she is the only thing getting our friends out of the forest. The only Hoothoot the old lady has left is this odd ball who has never guided a traveler through the forest. Ash is determined to beat Gary, and vows to help Hoothoot get better. Team Rocket tries to get out of the woods but hasn’t found a way, but might hitch their wagon on the twerp train. Hoothoot and the gang get scared by illusions made by ghosts, this bird doesn’t know Foresight if Ash is asking, and only uses it a little for Misty. It doesn’t give up when emboldened by Misty. Misty gives Hoothoot some confidence, Ash is jealous of her. Team Rocket hooks Pikachu, but Ash comes for the ride. He falls, and Pikachu is caught in a box. Team Rocket gets lassoed by Ash and a twine merchant, apparently, and Team Rocket gives Ash a battle. Arbok and James’ flavor of the month Victrebell battle a Dragonite, but this dragon is just a ghost and they run away. The ghosts create a bunch of Ash illusions and bug Pokémon, but Ash emboldens Hoothoot to use that foresight to reveal the Haunter and Gengar behind the scenes. Hoothoot gives Misty all of the love, but Ash did have a moment of improvement today.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Gary, this man is confident and prepared.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, he gets our gang lost and shows his unpreparedness.
One thing I learned: Sometimes to get through the night you need some foresight.
