Pokemon 133: Fighting Flyer with Fire

Pokemon Company

Airdate: January 20th, 2000

Summary: Our crew is finally at the Violet City gym, but before they can go in they are asked to fill out an unofficial survey by Team Rocket. Team Rocket takes Pikachu, and while Ash uses Heracross to get Pikachu back, Falkner uses Hoothoot to take Pikachu back. He uses Pidgeot to help get Pikachu down and Team Rocket out. They connect about their Pidgeot, and now I’m thinking of Pidgeotto, what an underrated bird. Falkner accepts Ash’s challenge, and first Ash sends Chikorita against Hoothoot. Hoothoot is fast and goes ham on Chikorita in its first battle with Ash, but gets shocked by Pikachu after a few Agilitys. Falkner chooses his Dodrio as his second Pokémon against Pikachu, and both Pokémon start off with Agility. Dodrio uses a Fury Attack, Drill Peck, Tri Attack combo. Pikachu jumps high and finishes Dodrio off. Falkner sends out Pidgeot, who finished off Pikachu easily with a Whirlwind attack. Pidgeot starts off with an Agility attack, and starts whacking Charizard with Quick Attacks, hurting Charizard’s wings. Charizard keeps getting blasted and Falkner tells Ash to forfeit. Ash won’t quit, and tells Charizard to preemptively use attacks to get it off balance and Charizard ultimately gets Pidgeot with a Seismic Toss. Ash has his first badge!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Charizard, it flew stride for stride with a Pidgeot, impressive.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Falkner, he gave ash a good test, but his Dodrio was not impressive.

One thing I learned: Speed isn’t everything.

Who is that Pokémon?: Marill, as the gen-2 Pikachu it isn’t half bad.

Best Quote: “I only have one more chance to win, and that’s all I need” -Ash

Best Scene: Charizard’s Seismic Toss.
