Pokemon 153: The Totodile Duel

Pokemon Company

Airdate: June 8th, 2000

Summary: Our friends are fishing to catch Pokémon when Misty lures in a tea kettle. Misty uses her secret weapon, her mini-Misty lure. Misty waxes poetic about her lure and her love of Water Pokémon. A Totodile jumps and presents itself to our friends, dancing on a rock. Misty and Ash both try to catch Totodile, and Totodile winks at this crocodile Pokémon. Ash tries to catch Totodile but it pops out of Ash’s Pokeball. Totodile flees the scene, while Misty and Ash look for Totodile, who is hungry. Team Rocket is munching, Meowth is morose, and Totodile decides to grab a snack out of Jessie’s hand. Ash and Misty find Totodile after Team Rocket bounces, Misty tries to use her Lure Ball so Ash uses his and Totodile is caught. Ash and Misty battle to decide who gets to keep the Totodile, a la, Who Gets Togepi?. Misty and Ash battle, and Misty uses Togepi against Pikachu. Pikachu cannot muster any strength to battle Togepi, it is paralyzed by cuteness. Ash uses Chikorita against Misty’s Staryu, HYUUUUUUU! Staryu uses Swift and Chikorita uses its Tackle attack, and finally a Vine Whip attack is Staryu’s undoing. Now it’s Bulbasaur vs. Poliwag. Team Rocket is floating down the river on a log, where they run into the gang. Team Rocket tries to steal Pikachu, but wait until everyone is tired. This match is hot, and Poliwag and Bulbasaur use Razor Leaf and Doubleslap attacks. Just when Poliwag seems defeated, it evolves into a Poliwhirl, what a stud. Poliwhirl uses a Body Slam and Bulbasaur uses a Solarbeam attack. While Bulbasaur is charging up Poliwhirl uses a Bubble attack. Right before Bulbasaur is about to faint, it launches its Solarbeam to defeat Poliwhirl. Ash wins the match, and Totodile, just like the first contest between Ash and Misty. Team Rocket celebrates Ash’s win in costume, but Wobbuffet blows their cover. Totodile takes a bite out of Jessie and Team Rocket blasts off after Totodile uses its strong jaws. Ash has a new dancing Pokemon!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, in the end he gets the Totodile.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Misty, in the end she doesn’t get the Totodile.

One thing I learned: Misty has some good strategy, but Ash is the better battler.

Who is that Pokémon?: Pichu, what a cutie!

Best Quote: “I’m up against a water Pokémon disaster” -Ash

Best Scene: Misty going into her water Pokémon soliloquy.
