Airdate: June 29th, 2000
Summary: Ash has his sights set on a Noctowl, the evolved form of Hoothoot. Another guy, Dr. Wiseman, does as well. Ash is enamored by the different coloration of Dr. Wiseman’s Noctowl. He has had a real trouble catching it. Even though it is smaller than the average Noctowl, it is extra sneaky. Ash is motivated even more to capture it now, and Noctowl hastily throws the Pokeball pack at Ash. Our friends go to Dr. Wiseman’s place, and he doubts that Ash will have any success catching Noctowl. Dr. Wiseman has a secret contraption which is supposed to catch the bird, which only half succeeds. Noctowl looks into Dr. Wiseman’s mirror, hypnotizing itself, but also getting through to Dr. Wiseman. Team Rocket snaps everyone to attention when they land in their mega Noctowl. They try and catch Noctowl, but blow it right into Dr. Wiseman’s arms. Team Rocket catches both the doctor and Noctowl, but Chikorita and Bulbasaur hold the machine back while Ash tries to set Noctowl free from their grasp. Psyduck tries to help but it can’t activate its psychic powers. Ash is able to pry Noctowl free, and Noctowl organizes Ash’s Pokémon to attack Team Rocket’s robot. First Cyndaquil burns the robot, then Totodile cools it, causing it to crack from the expansion and contraction. Ash sends Pikachu out to send Team Rocket flying. Noctowl wants Ash to challenge it to battle, and Dr. Wiseman finally gives in and lets Ash battle it. Ash sends out Pikachu, but Noctowl uses its Hypnosis to send it off course. Pikachu knocks itself back into action, only to have to avoid Noctowl’s Tackle. Ash gets Pikachu to use its ears to locate Noctowl. Pikachu si able to knock Noctowl down, and Ash has a new buddy to the team.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Noctowl, this bird is smart and a great addition to Ash’s team.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Dr. Wiseman, this man is on a mission but he is annoying and I don’t like him. He came around, but still.
One thing I learned: Ash is going to have a crafty and stubborn Pokémon.
Who is that Pokémon?: Entei, what a hard hitter. Entei has its haters, I am not one of them.
