Pokemon 157: Forest Grumps

Pokemon Company

Airdate: July 6th, 2000

Summary: Ash and the crew throw their Pokémon out to get some activity. Totodile is a bit too much for Chikorita. Team Rocket throws one of their patented nets out to capture them, but a Hyper Beam attack by a group of Ursaring from the forest forces the gang and Team Rocket to split. Jessie, Brock and Ash are paired, while James, Misty, and Meowth are paired. The Ursaring force both groups to flee before they can battle each other. Both groups call a ceasefire until they get out of the forest. Brock decides to start cooking, and Jessie is appreciative of a good home-cooked meal. Jessie, James and Meowth grow to appreciate how the gang lives, while also questioning what they are doing in light of how they are living right now. Jessie gets a great opportunity to grab Pikachu, and takes it before she runs into an Ursaring and right back into the cave. Ahs and Brock battle a whole host of Ursaring as they start looking for Misty, and Jessie remarks that it makes sense why the keep losing to them. Our friends and Team Rocket are reunited, and decide to take a rope bridge that looks dangerous. They all fall to the other side, and are hanging by a thread. All of both teams Pokémon work to pull their trainers to the other side, avoiding the forest grumps. Brock and Meowth embrace, but Jessie and James quickly jump to opposing sides to battle because the truce is over. Togepi sends Team Rocket flying during the middle of the battle, right into where the Ursaring currently are.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, they get humanized in this episode, one of their redemption episodes.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Meowth, it’s odd-finger trick is a bit annoying.

One thing I learned: Team Rocket and the gang can work together, but Team Rocket is too selfish to ever truly become friends.

Who is that Pokémon?: Noctowl, this is a great bird, almost as good as Pidgeotto.

Best Quote: “I didn’t get Pikachu, or any sleep” -Jessie

Best Scene: All of the Pokémon pulling the rope bridge up.
