Airdate: August 24th, 2000
Summary: Our friends walk through the Johto National Park, and enter a bug-catching contest. They run into Casey who sings an impassioned version of the Team Electabuzz fight song. Casey challenges Ash in the contest. They got to register, and run into Team Rocket who do not pass for under-16, the limit of registration. Ash and Casey start trying to catch bug Pokémon, while Misty goes apeshit over the bugs. Jessie dresses as a Venomoth, and gets stunned by a Venomoth. Casey finds some Pineco and uses Chikorita to fend them off. Casey challenges a Scyther who is way too experienced for Chikorita, but Casey keeps pushing her against this mantis. Ash tells Casey that she is pushing Chikorita too hard, and Chikorita runs away while Ash distracts Scyther. Meanwhile, Togepi wanders into the contest, and consoles Chikorita who is hiding behind some bushes. Chikorita is done with Casey’s bullshit, she has a lot to learn as a trainer. Chikorita is emboldened by Casey’s words of love for Chikorita, and they come closer as Pokémon and trainer. Ash gets attacked by a Beedrill, who Ash captures with a park ball. Ash then falls into a Team Rocket trap with a cage at the bottom, they are getting better. Casey challenges Team Rocket for Ash’s sake, and Wobbuffet confirms the Electabuzz are having a good season. Chikorita evolves for Casey, and Bayleef ends up sending Team Rocket flying. Ash wins the contest and the Sun Stone, but gives the Beedrill to Casey.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, he gave Casey a Beedrill, the perfect Pokémon for her.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Misty, her bug hate is the kind of propaganda we don’t need in this world.
One thing I learned: Jessie’s vanity knows no bounds.
