Pokemon 165: Fossil Fools

Pokemon Company

Airdate: September 7th, 2000

Summary: Our friends are in the Ruins of Alph, where they run into Professor Oak after he invited them with a tip from Foster, who was a top student to Prof. Oak at Celadon University. Lately, the dig sit in the Ruins have had water problems, because unbeknownst to them Team Rocket has been siphoning the water. Foster talks about his thesis that all Pokémon life started in the water, and Misty wants to be his assistant. Brock finally gets to turn the table and pull her away by her ear. Foster shows our crew the Ancient Pokémon Study Park that recreates the world of prehistoric Pokémon. Foster made one big discovery, a group of Omanyte and Omastar. They are real, but they are real jumpy as well. Foster runs into a conundrum, does he show the public the Pokémon or keep them a secret? James finds an Omanyte stuck in the water line, and Team Rocket sucks about another rare Pokémon that I’m guessing they will lose. Ash and the gang concur that all of the fossil Pokémon should stay in their habitat away from the public. The water pressure has stopped, so Prof. Oak, Foster, and the gang head up to the reservoir with Noctowl in the lead. Team Rocket starts sucking up the fossil Pokémon ten at a time, while our gang rollicks up the hill.  They get to the scene of Team Rocket’s heist; this might be the latest our gang is aware of a Team Rocket plot. Pikachu starts to attack Team Rocket as they send out Weezing and Arbok, hitting the water tank. Team Rocket try to make a break with the Omanyte and Omastar, but the weight of the Pokémon is too much for the balloon. Noctowl pecks a hole in the balloon, and Team Rocket is sunk. Foster releases all of the fossil Pokémon into the reservoir, safe from harm.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Foster, just a cool dude doing cool stuff because he’s cool.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Who knew Team Rocket would pull a Nestle Company?

One thing I learned: All Pokémon may have come from the sea.

Who is that Pokémon?: Pichu, this is the second-best baby Pokémon, behind Elekid.

Best Quote: “I’ll be respected as the premier purveyor of prehistoric Pokémon” -James

Best Scene: Foster waxing poetic about fossils.
