Airdate: January 11th, 2001
Summary: Our friends are walking down the road when they see Houndoom, a majestic dog who has a messenger bag. Team Rocket plan to keep it simple with a sneak attack, and Misty’s ears pop. Team Rocket smogs our gang, while Togepi teleports away from the action and lands in a tree. Team Rocket gets blasted by a Pikachu and Chikorita combo before they realize that Togepi is gone. Houndoom hears Togepi’s cries and decides to help it from the tree. It plans to leave Togepi, but it gives it an apple to help its hunger. It tries to leave again, but a Pinsir starts to attack Togepi and Houndoom scares it away. Finally, Houndoom carries Togepi after it trips and falls. Misty and the crew look all over but they can’t find Togepi. Misty correctly predicts that a wild Pokémon has it, and Ash uses Noctowl to help look while Ash uses Golbat. Houndoom and Togepi almost drown in water, and Togepi will not give Houndoom any rest as it free climbs up a mountain. Houndoom and Togepi play in a bed of flowers full of Pokémon, but Houndoom gets a good Sleep Powder from Venusaur. Noctowl tracks Togepi’s footprints along with Houndoom’s. Houndoom wakes up and takes Togepi further onto their destination. Team Rocket’s balloon sinks right into Gyrados, who blasts them off again. Now we get a montage of Houndoom and Togepi crossing grass fields, waterfalls, stormy weather, amazing. Pikachu tracks Houndoom, who finally delivers Togepi to its owner. Our gang catches up to it, and they thank Houndoom for helping Togepi. Team Rocket swoops in and takes Houndoom, but Chikorita cuts it free, and lets Houndoom attack them. Togepi and Houndoom have an emotional goodbye, I’m not crying, you are.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Houndoom, what a caring, loving Pokémon.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, only because they caused Togepi strife, otherwise it is a boiler plate episode for them.
One thing I learned: Houndoom are the best.
Who is that Pokémon?: Poliwhirl, this is one of my top-five favorite Pokémon hands down.
