Pokemon 186: All That Glitters!

Pokemon Company

Airdate: February 8th, 2001

Summary: Ash is polishing his badges while Misty and Brock are cooking, when three Murkrow emerge out of the bushes. They sing a little ditty, and Pikachu is impressed. While the crew is distracted the Murkrow steal the badges. Ash sends Noctowl out to get them back, but they fly off out of reach. The gang chases them and tracks down Murkrow, only for them to hit our gang with a Sand-Attack. Team Rocket steals Pikachu, but the Murkrow put a whole in the balloon to get James’ bottle caps. James goes apeshit to get the Murkrow, but he catches a rock instead of the Murkrow. Our gang roll up to Murkrow’s pad, and Ash decides to use his Pokémon as a team like he did in his gym matches. Ash sees his Fog Badge, and slowly approaches the nest. Murkrow spots them, but plays dumb. When Ash gets too close, they use their Peck attack. Ash, Pikachu, and Bulbasaur fall flat on their face in an attempt to take the badges. Our friends try a trap to entrap the Murkrow and take the badge, but Pineco and the plan blow up in their faces. Ash is not going to quit; he challenges them to a battle with Noctowl. Noctowl just stands there, waiting until the Murkrow let their guard down by taunting it. All of the birds fly up in the air, but Team Rocket attempts to suck them up, capturing Pikachu. Ash catches the Murkrow that who are caught in a gust, and Team Rocket tries to blow everyone away. Noctowl flies up with the Murkrow and they work together to free Pikachu and get the Fog Badge. The Murkrow make some new friends, and our gang leaves for Olivine City.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: James, almost any episode where his bottle caps are involved is comedy gold.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Murkrow, they become friends in the end, but Ash worked for those damn badges. Secondly, don’t fuck with James’ caps.

One thing I learned: James loves his bottle caps.

Who is that Pokémon?: Bellossom, I wish they had a bigger design overall, but they’re good.

Best Quote: “Right now, ready or not, those caps belong to me” -James

Best Scene: Noctowl flying up and facing off with the Murkrow who encircle it.
