Pokemon 187: The Light Fantastic

Pokemon Company

Airdate: February 15th, 2001

Summary: Our friends are walking through a desert and they have run out of water. Team Rocket is in the same situation, Jessie draws the short straw of the water situation. Our friends see beautiful lights in the distance, our friends head for it, so does Team Rocket. Our friends find the ruins of the Ancient Colossal Tree Tribe, and they run into Nurse Joy who tells them about the Remoraid that were once in this area. The story goes, the people of the ruins use to have a lush forest, but they wanted to build s great city but killed the land by over-harvesting trees, this is an environmental episode folks. Nurse Joy takes them down to an underground lake and shows them their water source, and meet Mr. Gangogh, an artist who comes every twelve years to see the Remoraid and paint the lights. Of course, our friends will be there at the exact moment of the lights. Apparently, the Remoraid Lake my be connected to the lights. Nurse Joy explains that the Remoraid are hard to catch, and Team Rocket busts in with disguises to get some water. Mr. Gangogh failed again to capture the perfect picture, but the lights will reappear if the gang finds out the cause. Our crew walk to Remoraid Lake and see a crystal tower. Team Rocket comes out to steal the crystal, then Pikachu, but Gangogh brings out their old friend Venusaur. Venusaur sends Team Rocket flying, and Pikachu back into Ash’s arms. The sun comes out, and the Remoraid shoot water and ice on the crystal which causes the lights. Team Rocket comes back and nets the Remoraid, but they are able to escape team Rocket. Gangogh sees the lights, but decides a painting wouldn’t do it justice.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Mr. Gangogh, what devotion.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, only because they messed with the Remoraid, they were not so bad.

One thing I learned: Artists are often perfectionists and sometimes this is to their own detriment, but sometimes it makes perfect art.

Who is that Pokémon?: Sunflora, eh. It should have got a buff in Generation 4.

Best Quote: “I’m too thirsty to get worked up” -James

Best Scene: The lights at the end of the episode.
