Airdate: April 19th, 2001
Summary: Our friends are walking through a village when they spot a Feraligatr and Nidoking wrestling with each other. Now it’s Heracross vs. the Big Jaw Pokémon, Feraligatr wins easily. Raiden is Feraligatr’s trainer, and his master and leader of the Sumo Conference is Shonosuke. The Sumo Tournament is coming up, and Ash decides to enter with the heaviest Pokémon he has, Snorlax while sending Noctowl back to Professor Oak. James and Jessie enter Wobbuffet as a Miltank, with a trick up their sleeve. It’s weigh-in time, and Snorlax smashes the scale. The Conference starts and Snorlax will not wake up while opening ceremonies start. Snorlax wakes up when he hears about the year supply of food, Ash has his eyes on some great experience and a King’s Rock. Team Rocket battles first, and Wobbuffet uses Counter, which is prohibited because it is an attack. Team Rocket is disqualified, and decide to have everyone prepare for trouble. Feraligatr sends them flying. Feraligatr faces Golem who has a weight advantage, bit the gator uses Golem’s weight against it to beat it. It’s Snorlax vs. Poliwrath, and Snorlax uses its belly and hits Poliwrath out of the ring. Team Rocket has a scheme to steal the Pokémon and sell prints. The Gator faces Blastoise, and it gets hit to the very edge of the ring, but is able to use Blastoise’s weight against it again to win. In the other semi, Snorlax beats a Machamp easily. Ash is the first rookie to make it to the final match. It’s Snorlax vs. Feraligatr, and Snorlax has the moves to dance around Feraligatr’s moves. Snorlax is pushed to the edge, but Snorlax is able to belly bump Feraligatr away. Snorlax won’t be beat, as it lands on its feet before pushing Feraligatr out. Snorlax eats all of the food in one go that it won, while Ash gets the King’s Rock.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Snorlax, this Pokémon is a wrestling fiend.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Blastoise, it was the Pokémon to beat and lost in the Semis.
One thing I learned: Sometimes all you need is a round belly.
