Summary: Our heroes are continuing the journey to Olivine City, but Pikachu is really exhausted. They get stopped by a man who says he can speak to Pikachu after giving it a quick consult. Pikachu gets a charge from the old man’s station, Team Rocket comes into the fray, and doubts that this man, Simon, can speak Pokémon. Officer Jenny puts Simon under arrest for a Pokémon scam. Officer Jenny turns the light on Team Rocket, but before they can escape smoke bombs come out of nowhere and Team Rocket gets away with Simon in the smoke. Simon is caught by the people who send the bombs, the people who are actually setting up the fake translation business. Team Rocket listens in, and Meowth laments learning English. Team Rocket plans to rescue Simon from the thugs who are holding him to make him do translations for them. Ash calls Professor Oak, and he tells him that it seems like Simon is lying. Then, Simon shows up and tells his story of his first connection to Pokémon, when he got caught in a hurricane and started talking to a Rattata, Pidgey, and Oddish. Pikachu gets up to thank Simon, and the thugs show up to confront Simon as a “con-man”. They throw out their Magnemite and Magneton, and Simon tries to talk to them instead of battling, telling them to think of their fellow Pokémon instead of attacking the Center and stealing the power. Pikachu reenergizes the magnets after they power down, and the goons are caught by Officer Jenny. Simon is commended for saving the Pokémon Center. Team Rocket appreciates that they escaped, but too soon, they get crushed by a lightning storm. Meowth poses as a non-English speaking Pokémon to give Simon confidence, Team Rocket did a good thing.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Simon, just a misunderstood translator.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Officer Jenny, this “Pokémon scam” seems unreasonable to charge someone with.
One thing I learned: Humans and Pokémon can connect on a real level.
Who is that Pokémon?: Wooper, cutie.
Best Quote: “But now we have someone new to talk to” -Oddish
Best Scene: Simon’s memory of speaking to the Pokémon.
