Summary: Our heroes are sleeping by the lake when a swimming Rhydon jumps out of the water to Ash’s surprise, huh?! Misty and Brock don’t believe his story until a woman named Pietra confirms Ash’s story. Pietra takes our heroes to a mountain pass where she is trying to make a tunnel for easier transportation, but the water in the cave is making it hard for her Pokemon to finish the job. Brock tries Onix but the water scared him as well, so our heroes look for Rhydon by following his tracks, right into the lake. Meanwhile, Team Rocket lies in wait to steal the Rhydon for their own purposes but get distracted by a pile of delicious apples. These apples are Rhydon’s, and when they find Team Rocket they get enraged. Pietra tries to battle it but it escapes into the lake, so they follow it in a boat. Totodile swims a backstroke right into Rhydon, who engages our heroes in a fight to no avail. Team Rocket sets a trap by the apples, only for Wobbuffet to fall right in. They use the old net attached to the balloon trick, but Crobat, Pikachu, and Bulbasaur help free our new horned friend. Pietra goes 1v1 with Rhydon who drags her into the bottom of the lake, then jumps in and out of the lake, and Pietra exhibits a PBR bull-riding level effort to earn Rhydon’s respect, which she finally receives. Rhydon faces Marill, a few Bubblebeams and Tackles later Pietra tries to catch Rhydon, but they pop out of the ball. Finally, Pietra gets her Rhydon with Marill’s strong Iron Tail attack. Rhydon helps Pietra finally drill to the other side of the mountain, and our heroes say goodbye.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Rhydon, anytime a Rock/Ground type can swim that deserves some consideration.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Wobbufett, eating on the job.
One thing I learned: Rhydon can learn Surf.
Who is that Pokémon?: Sunflora, I like it but it doesn’t do that much for me design wise.
Best Quote: “I know how to bring them right back down to earth” -Brock
Best Scene: The close up of Marill using Iron Tail was pretty cool.
