Pokemon 208: The Joy of Water Pokemon

Pokemon Company

Airdate: July 12, 2001

Summary: Our heroes stumble upon Lake Lucid and the Nurse Joy there is holding a Goldeen, Misty is in heaven. Nurse Joy invites our heroes to the Pokemon Center, but she seems a bit discontented with her job. Brock explains how Nurse Joy’s grandmother and mother are authors of books about cleaning up Lake Lucid’s pollution. Nurse Joy explains how healthy the Pokemon are in the lake. Team Rocket rolls up in a robo-Tentacruel while Pikachu gets healed in the Pokemon Center. Misty wants her water Pokemon to get healed, but Nurse Joy has a Water Pokemon ick, she is scared of them and will only work with them with a suit on… what! She does later explain that it is her duty to work with them even if she hates them. As always Team Rocket plans on stealing the Water Pokemon sitting in heating water baths in the Pokemon Center. Nurse Joy tells the story of her working with her mom when she got playfully attacked by a Remoraid and fell into the lake, scarring her for life. Team Rocket tries to steal the Gyrados whose tank gets busted open, Nurse Joy’s suit gets sucked into the void and Nurse Joy steps up to treat the hurt Gyrados. Nurse Joy recites her mother’s words while she finally overcomes her fear and helps Water Pokemon without her suit, even if she still doesn’t like them. Our heroes bid farewell and we are still off to Olivine.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Nurse Joy, some real growth here by putting her trauma aside.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, sometimes they are just blundering idiots with no redeeming qualities.

One thing I learned: You can calm down a Gyrados by patting their head.

Who is that Pokémon?: Bellsprout, I tend to like this line of Pokemon, the fly trap idea is interesting to me.

Best Quote: “There is no Pokemon that is better than any other” -Nurse Joy

Best Scene: Nurse Joy petting Gyrados as it calms down with the brace Chansey puts a brace on it.
