Summary: Our heroes are already in Cianwood City, where we zoom into the medicine shop. Janina gets the medicine and says she will head off on a ship back to Olivine, our heroes go to the beach and find a martial arts man training with a Machoke. Machoke uses a submission attack and throws the man a good 20 feet, but the man is crying in happiness about how good the attack was and embraces Machoke. Ash shares that he wants to battle the Cianwood Gym leader, the man who leads our heroes to the gym for a while but falls behind because he is out of shape. Chuck introduces himself as the gym leader and feeds our heroes a hardy meal. Chuck challenges Ash to a Storm badge battle, it is a 2 on 2 battle! God I love gym battles… and Poliwrath! Pikachu battles Poliwrath, they change jabs, Poliwrath uses a Doubleslap while Pikachu tries to resist, but Poliwrath is too strong. Team Rocket tries to steal the food in the Cianwood Gym, the typical side story during a gym match for our dastardly Rocket gang. Ash uses Bayleef for his second Pokemon, who immediately Vine Whips Poliwrath and Body Slams it into submission, we are tied up. Chuck chooses Machoke who immediately starts Karate Chopping Chuck… so Bayleef Body Slams Ash. Bayleef avoids Machoke’s attacks but is on the defensive until she Vine Whips Machoke. Machoke pulls Bayleef closer with a submission but Bayleef’s Vine Whip finally wraps Machoke up and tosses it to the ground to set up a Body Slam/Razor Lead combo which ends Machoke’s chances, Ash gets his 5th badge! Ash calls Janina who tells him that Jasmine isn’t up to battling, but Chuck suggests he checks up on the Whirl Islands as he travels back to Olivine. Team Rocket gets fed by a hospitable Cianwood Gym… it actually turned out well for them today, maybe kindness works. Our heroes say bye to Chuck and his wife, off to the Whirl Islands and Season 5, Pokemon: Master Quest!
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Poliwrath, normally Ash gets this for a gym battle but Poliwhirl is my favorite Pokemon and Poliwrath is not far behind.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Pikachu, another gym match… another disappointment, get better at battling dude.
One thing I learned: Bayleef is a tough son of a gun.
Who is that Pokémon?: Ampharos, one of the best Pokemon… deserved a better-designed Mega Evolution.
Best Quote: “I’m so proud of you Poliwrath” -Chuck, me too Chuck.. Me too!
Best Scene: Bayleef slow motion whipping Machoke to the ground using her leverage.
