Summary: Our heroes are headed right to the Whirl Islands where they spot some whirlpools… it must mean we are at the Whirl Islands… right?!? RIGHT?!?!? New Intro song with Politoed, let’s go! Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Celebi! All the big guns in this intro. Team Rocket enters the picture and tries to steal Pikachu with a net, but they capture Ash instead, que the motto, and Team Rocket questioning themselves and their lack of success. They regroup to fight our heroes, only to throw all of them overboard right towards the whirlpools. IS THAT POLIWHIRL’S MUSIC!?!?!? YES!! FUCK YES! He along with Misty’s other water types and Totodile try to escape the pools but a flying legendary Pokemon of the Seas, Corsola, and Tentacruel help our heroes back to the safety of a boat. Wait, IS THAT ELM’s MUSIC?!?!? Wow they pulled out the big guns. Elm describes Corsola and introduces the ship’s captain, Marius, who tells Elm to shut up, classic. They both explain the Whirl Cup Competition to our heroes, Misty gets big eyes for this Water-Pokemon contest. Brock asks a Marill trainer about the fur condition of Water types… interesting. Misty goes on a heated diatribe about proving her worth to her sisters, meanwhile Elm tells Ash that they must travel around four islands before ending at Red Rock Isle. Our heroes describe the huge Pokemon under the water to Marious and Elm, meanwhile Ash learns that there are Steel types… which makes me wonder why they haven’t explained this type before in the Anime. Team Rocket tries to steal all the well-trained Water Pokemon at the center, a battle between Corsola, Staryu and Weezing/Arbok ends in defeat for Team Rocket. Ash calls Oak at the end of the night but Elm hijacks the call as usual. Goodnight.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Poliwhirl, my favorite Pokemon helps our heroes. Honorable Mention to Jessie’s Arbok who did pretty well.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Weezing, it was not pulling its weight compared to Arbok.
One thing I learned: The climate varies from island to island in the Whirl Islands, interesting.
Who is that Pokémon?: Houndoom, a very very cool Pokemon. I love the “doom” part actually being a guise for how sweet it is in almost every episode.
Best Quote: “And our dream of being master snatchers… has just been snatched completely” – James and Meowth, not a great quote for this episode unfortunately.
Best Scene: The Lugia scene under the water.
