Pokemon Company

Airdate: September 13, 2001

Summary: Our heroes are finally at the Whirl Cup site on Red Rock Isle, here we go! Team Rocket dreams of stealing Water Pokemon from the Pokemon Center, and Brock dreams of marrying Nurse Joy as they register for the cup. When they step outside of the Center, a boy named Marcellus asks Ash to battle his Remoraid to evolve it into an Octillery. Misty steps up and uses Corsola to battle Remoraid. Remoraid uses Surf and Water Gun to demolish Corsola and eventually evolve. Ash starts his preliminary match and faces a Seel with Ice Beam, but Totodile dances through the attack and delivers Ash a first round victory. Misty uses Poliwhirl against a Magikarp who loses easily, meanwhile Totodile beats a Shellder and Misty’s Corsola beats a Seaking in the second round. After a few wins boost their confidence, Marcellus walks by in a bad mood after a loss, our friends cheer him up and he invites them to dinner at his mansion. He has a room full of Remoraid from all over the world, but they all ignore the Octillery when he puts them into the tank. Misty helps with an idea to have the Remoraid like Octillery again…. Have Ash act like an Octillery to make a friend with Marcellus’ Octillery who uses a Water Gun to show Ash he is a fake. Ash having to dress up as a Pokemon never gets old. Anyways, while our heroes eat cheese omelets with Marcellus, Team Rocket sucks up all the Remoraid until Marcellus hears and finds them and chases them as they leave in a truck with the Remoraid. Octillery sticks themselves to the truck and once Team Rocket tries to unload it causes all sorts of trouble with a Headbutt, breaking the glass and releasing the Remoraid from Team Rocket’s tank. Our heroes show up but Team Rocket snatches Octillery only for the Remoraid to break him free and Water Gun them down to safety. Octillery blasts Team Rocket away with an Octazooka, and Remoraid’s pals all evolve into Octillery in support of their friend, on to the next round!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Octillery, the dude just wanted friends and ultimately proved to be the best friend of all.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Remoraid, just because their boy leveled up they ditch him… not cool.

One thing I learned: Octillery don’t only have suction cups but strong heads to boot.

Who is that Pokémon?: Jumpluff, underrated but ultimately unuseful in competitive and even playthroughs. I like the design.

Best Quote: “You can’t play me, Mrs. Crabtree was really scary” – Jessie, if I had a teacher named Crabtree I would probably feel the same way.

Best Scene: Octillery breaking the glass in the night and Remoraid respecting their old friend again.
