Summary: Our heroes are part of the opening ceremonies for the Whirl Cup, and of course there is a dreamy Sea Priestess named Maya to christen the ceremony. As with every tournament, Team Rocket act as vendors for the event as they scheme to steal the symbol of the tournament, in this case a staff with a blue orb. We learn that the winner gets a Mystic Water pendant. Ash talks with Oak and exchanges his Bayleef for Kingler so he could compete in the later rounds if he advances. Bayleef finds it hard to adjust to life without Ash, while Ash and Totodile face a kid named Christopher and his Kingdra. Ash starts with an underwater dive, Kingdra responds with a tough Twister attack that catches Totodile in a whirlpool and on the defensive. Kingdra’s Hydro Pump is used but Totodile uses the water to set up a Skull Bash which misses. Kingdra’s Smokescreen clears the slate and sneaks up on Totodile, but as Kingdra uses Hydro Pump Totodile bites his mouth closed so Kingdra is sent flying to its defeat. Ash onto the next round! Now it is Misty’s turn as she faces Harrison and his Qwilfish. Qwilfish uses a strong water attack but Corsola uses Mirror Coat to great effect. Qwilfish uses Pin Missile by absorbing all the water in the stadium, meanwhile Team Rocket plots to steal the orb from Maya. Qwilfish’s attack hits Corsola hard, but Misty uses a Recover before Qwilfish’s Take Down attempt, catching it in its horns. Corsola ferries Qwilfish around before using Spike Cannon for a direct hit and Misty moves on to the Second Round while Team Rocket move to serve their next customer. Uh oh! Misty and Ash are facing off in the Second Round, here we go!
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Totodile, the little gator was able to beat a very tough Dragon Pokemon.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Qwilfish, I thought Kingdra put up a better fight than Qwilfish.
One thing I learned: Qwilfish’s Pin Missile needs water intake to execute, thank you Brock!
Who is that Pokémon?: Aipom, I think Aipom is fun but I don’t really care either way about it, there are better monkey Pokemon.

Best Scene: Kingdra getting all plugged up by Totodile.
