Pokémon 222: The Mystery is History

Pokemon Company

Airdate: October 18, 2001

Summary: Our heroes meet with Richie, whom we haven’t seen since the end of the first season way back when, what is he doing here? Well, as always he is doing what Ash is doing, looking for a mysterious Pokemon. The gang finds a random boat to go to a remote island where they look around and find a boy named Oliver with a Lanturn who before our gang arrived was playing with a Pokemon named Silver before telling Silver to hide. Richie asks Oliver about the other Pokemon, he lies to our heroes and we see the Pokemon is a baby Lugia. While Oliver is playing, Team Rocket Scouts find Oliver’s Lugia, planning to capture it. They move in to capture, but Oliver and Silver can’t escape alone, luckily our heroes come and help, but the minute they come, Butch and Cassidy and Jesse and James appear, this is a party! Ash brings out Bayleef to fight Butch and Cassidy’s Hitmontop and Houndour, while Ritchie helps with Cruz, his Pupitar. Ash and Ritchie win the battle, and with the help from Luca they escape. After going to safety, Oliver talks about how one day he was playing with Lanturn when a storm hit and Lugia appeared, just when Oliver starts telling his story, Lugia’s parent appears mad after seeing Silver with strangers, but Silver cries out and tells Mom it is ok. Luca and crew go under water and observe Lugia mother with son. Meanwhile, Professor Namba who wants to create a Pokemon energy beam out of Lugia’s power and is obsessed with getting lunch, plots to steal Lugia again. Butch and Cassidy send a Lugia bot out to get Silver to follow, Silver gets captured, but before they get to fully steal Lugia, Jesse and James try to get Lugia for themselves, distracting Butch and Cassidy enough to try and get Silver back. Houndour’s Smog is enough for Butch and Cassidy to get Lugia… now we have a problem as we go to our next exciting episode.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Cruz the Pupitar, an impressive debut performance.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Butch and Cassidy, soft-ass Houndour and Hitmontop!

One thing I learned: The Silver Wing reacts to Lugia’s presence with a red glow, I wonder what connection it has to Lugia to do that.

Who is that Pokémon?: Spearow, even though it is not a regional bird I like it as much or more than Pidgey.

Best Quote: “The name is Butch not Buzz” – Butch… this bit never gets old.

Best Scene: Any scene with adult Lugia in it is sick!
