Pokemon 231: An Egg-sighting Adventure

Pokemon Company

Airdate: December 20, 2001

Summary: Our heroes walk along to Mahogany with Ash’s new egg in tow, which Team Rocket plans to steal. Night comes and a huge lightning and rain storm forces our heroes inside, meanwhile a bolt hits Team Rocket and fries them. We get to the Pokemon Center, Brock instantly flirts with Joy, who shows our heroes to their rooms for the night. Meowth picks the lock and they sneak into Ash’s room to grab the egg, which Togepi in her excitement transports to the forest, to the chagrin of Team Rocket… who is distracted by an apple.. Interesting. Meanwhile, the egg is found by a baby Kangaskhan and its mother as Ash dreams about it being lost, our man is clairvoyant. Officer Jenny reports to the scene of the theft, which pleases Brock until Misty pulls the ear per usual. Jenny is on the case of the missing egg, first she investigates all the Chansey’s egg pouches, to no avail. Next we move to an Exeggucute nest with the help of Growlithe, again to no avail. Then Jenny turns the investigation inward, blaming Brock for taking the egg with some “deductive reasoning”… wrong! We check in on Team Rocket who ate all of the food in the store room after being distracted, but Meowth’s scratch marks lead Jenny right to Team Rocket. Jenny uses her Jumpluff’s Spore attack to check the prints of the suspected egg nappers. Jenny uses this evidence too…. Blame Ash’s Bayleef for stealing its own egg, she is off her rocker. Our heroes follow the foot and faceprints of Team Rocket, accusing them of stealing the egg and Pokemon Center food, only right on one account. Team Rocket flees into the forest, but as they chase Team Rocket our heroes find the Kangaskhan with the egg. Kangaskhan checks if the egg smells like Ash before handing it over, and it does so they return the egg to Ash, win for maternal instincts! Jenny has her theory for why Kangaskhan has the egg, including a Kangaskhan v. Team Rocket death match… interesting but wrong. Before our episode can end, Team Rocket has to steal the egg and go off in their balloon, only to be blasted off by Jenny’s Growlithe, Kangaskhan, and Pikachu. Off to Mahogany!

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Kangaskhan, for helping take care of the baby egg.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Investigator Jenny, great police officer but bad investigator.

One thing I learned: You can use Spore attack to track footprints, a whole new investigative technique.

Who is that Pokémon?: Blissey, I am lukewarm on Blissey, only that when you face one its tankiness is very annoying.

Best Quote: “How come I always got to be the bait? Because you are so alluring” – James to Meowth, they cooked on this one.

Best Scene: Togepi teleporting the egg, I feel like Togepi has really been in the background during Johto, we need more Togepi!
