Pokemon 235: A Tyrogue Full of Trouble
Airdate: January 24, 2002
Summary: Our heroes are on their way to Mahogany Town walking through a cave when they stumble upon a Tyrogue. Brock offers Tyrogue food and it refuses, until suddenly it steals the food out of Ash’s bag. Ash and the gang chase after Tyrogue with Bayleef, but after they chase it onto a ledge, Bayleef hits rocks that tumble almost onto Bayleef, but Master Chuck’s protege, Keyo, saves Bayleef. He shares that he is training for the P1 Grand Prix… which Ash doesn’t mention that he won.. Is he being humble or playing dumb? Keyo is alerted that Tyrogue has stolen more food from the village, they find it riding Tauros with its companion Mankey and Primeape. Togepi is almost run over but Tyrogue saves Togepi before riding off. Team Rocket likes the thought of stealing Tyrogue, while Keyo likes the thought of trying to rehabilitate Tyrogue, telling us the story of how Tyrogue was abandoned and started to hate humans. Tyrogue is seen caring for Pokemon, and Keyo goes into the forest to challenge Tyrogue to a battle with Hitmonchan. Hitmonchan uses Mega Punch, but Tyrogue uses a Headbutt to knock it out. Keyo then sends out Hitmonlee who uses a Rolling Kick, but Tyrogue dodges it with a quick Double Team… which Ash asks what it is… which he has seen before many times.. Idiot. Hitmonlee gets rocked and now Tyrogue is confident, until it is captured by Team Rocket. Keyo jumps to the balloon, grabs Tyrogue, and protects it from a tough fall, as well as a boulder about to fall on it, showing Tyrogue that humans can be trusted. As Keyo is holding the boulder, Onix hits it and then later sends Team Rocket Flying. Keyo bonds with Tyrogue by challenging it to a battle, Tyrogue uses Double Team but Keyo stays still and ends up blocking its punch with a tough Counter, throwing Tyrogue in the lake. Tyrogue accepts Keyo as its trainer, bringing Primeape and Mankey along with, and our heroes are off to Mahogany.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Tyrogue, its story is genuinely moving.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, he decided to forget two major things he has seen/done before… the writers either screwed up or didn’t care about his previous history.
One thing I learned: Pokemon can open up their hearts with enough love.
Who is that Pokémon?: Spinarak, love this spider and its design. Ariados is even better.
Best Quote: “That Tyrogue deserves to be thrown in jail” – Random villager…. Uh dude let’s not get into Pokemon incarceration here, starting to sound like Team Rocket.
Best Scene: Tyrogue joining Keyo once and for all.
