Summary: Our heroes are walking along a path to Mahogany when they suspect Team Rocket set a trap, which they did. Team Rocket and our heroes jump on it, eventually it breaks… shocker. But this time, they go into an even larger hole that goes into a bunker of sorts, a woman runs by who has them follow her… and then she tells them she is a fortune-teller with the help of Xatu.. how did we get here? Anyways, we get a name for the woman, Calista, and exposition that Xatu can see the future and are always in deep thought. Calista runs up the stairs into a doorway that opens up to a huge ampitheatre.. It looks like Calista is the resident fortune-teller who tells everyone it won’t rain.. And it does. Calista runs away thinking the rain is the coming of a doomsday, the heroes follow. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is left alone to the audience in a confusing twist Jessie rock/paper/scissors with the crowd… this is getting super confusing. Calista shows that the Xatu prediction is actually an antenna that shows the weather. Xatu looks back into the future and indicates that one of the humans in the room can predict the weather, Jessie tries her hand at it but she quickly backtracks, Xatu faints trying to see into Jessie’s future. The Xatu predict “the day”, a day of disaster and hard rain that will destroy everything. Calista laments her role as the town fortune-teller, saying that she can’t predict the future and wouldn’t want to… she then decides to go and tell the villagers to flee for their lives because of a great flood. When she tells them of their fate, the villagers give valuable peace offerings which Team Rocket wants to pawn for money to give to Delibird who shows up to collect payment. Xatu helps blast Delibird and Team Rocket off before giving a prophecy of a flood coming today and that everyone needs to leave right now. Xatu tells Calista that her life shouldn’t be told by a storyteller, they help transport her and our heroes out of harm’s way of the flood. Calista dreams of being a weather reporter while our heroes leave.. So long for this very confusing episode.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Xatu, these old geezer Xatu are just trying to survive in a world of Calista’s pressure.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Calista, I am getting culty vibes here. It took 14 generations to break the cycle.
One thing I learned: Xatu can’t always be relied on to tell the long future, but a short one seems easy to do.
Who is that Pokémon?: Ledian, Gen-2 rocks, I love the design and I love the whole angle that they help Pokemon Rangers.
Best Quote: “Prepare for trouble and make it quick, I don’t have time for this shtick” – Calista and Jessie meeting for the first time.
Best Scene: The Xatu using Future Sight.
