Airdate: February 7, 2002
Summary: Our heroes walk into a forest of Lake of Rage, where there are Pokemon who are sick, as Pikachu and Togepi both feel the same way. They run to the lake and see a red Gyrados jump out of the water. Team Rocket appears after admitting that our heroes shouldn’t have seen that Gyrados, the Rocket admin brings out his Fearow, Ash brings a Totodile (who also feels sick), and right before Fearow makes a critical hit, a red-haired and his Dragonite stop Team Rocket and flees. Misty makes the guy out to be Lance, a member of the Pokemon G-Men, a detective who sees who improperly treats Pokemon. Ash wants to help but Lance stops them from helping. Gyrados is sick laying at the bottom of the lake while Team Rocket complain about being hungry, as they view a barn where inside, Prof. Sebastian of Team Rocket explains how they evolved a Magikarp into a shiny Gyrados with science. Team Rocket walks through the halls of the barn, get locked in by the Rockets in the barn, and tries to explain that they are part of the same group, even if they were demoted to rookie status and have zero contribution. However, the Rocket boss says that for food they will seek their assistance for Project R, a cutting-edge science. Team Rocket asks the gang to capture the red Gyrados, which they happily accept. Lance goes incognito at the facility as our heroes walk to Mahogany Town, Ash refuses to go to Mahogany because he wants to help the Gyrados. Team Rocket dives down to get the Gyrados, with Jessie and Meowth trying to shirk their duty. James goes in for the capture, but Gyrados chases them above water and Gyrados gets caught into an industrial net. Our heroes find their way back to the Lake of Rage, sending Totodile and Poliwhirl to go and help free Gyrados. Just as they find the net, Prof. Sebastian orders the evolution inducement wave to start, making the Pokemon sick as they battle the evolutionary waves. As our heroes figure out the technology, Team Rocket captures Gyrados and our heroes, locking them up for the second time this season. Prof. Sebastian, like every bad guy, explains the whole plan about how Team Rocket wants to induce evolution onto Pokemon to force them to evolve, but can also be used to drain Pokemon energy. Our heroes are locked up, Team Rocket is munching on grub, and the Gyrados is being transported off-site.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, I love when he has a strong conviction to help Pokemon in need, he is a stubborn dude like me.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Prof. Sebastian… just his voice is smarmy and awful.
One thing I learned: Team Rocket always develops some interesting technology… even if it is used for evil.
Who is that Pokémon?: Marowak… eh honestly, the Alolan version is 100 times better.
Best Quote: “Not only are they filling our tummies, but they are filling our egos with a Team Rocket test” – James
Best Scene: Poliwhirl and Totodile chasing after the net, two of my favorites.
