Airdate: February 21, 2002
Summary: Ash and friends walk to the Mahogany Gym, but Pryce the leader is out. His wife Sheila tells him that he is training at a waterfall and that she will lead them there rather energetically. They meet Pryce at the waterfall and find out that he is the guy they met at the end of the Gyrados quelling. Pryce says he remembers Ash and has real disdain for Ash because he is too emotionally involved with his Pikachu. Pryce challenges Ash and sends out his Dewgong against Ash’s Phanpy, who uses a Rollout but is frozen after one Ice Beam. Pryce tells Ash that it is a waste of his time to battle him because he is too emotional, and Ash races after him. Team Rocket preys upon Ash and tries to steal Pikachu, chasing him towards a cliff. Pryce appears and helps Ash, but they both fall off a cliff, luckily Noctowl and Totodile save the day by bracing their fall with Fly and Water Gun. Misty, Brock, and Sheila look down the cliff and find a gully they will climb down. Meanwhile, Pryce gives Totodile medicine after the Water Gun depleted his energy. Sheila and our friends, as well as Pryce and Ash, talk about how Pryce’s Piloswine were once a great fighting pair, but one day after a tough loss to a Magmar, Piloswine up and left leaving Pryce’s heart cold. Ash and Pryce find Piloswine’s training guard on the ground and run to the light reflective from an Ice Cave. They happen upon Pryce’s frozen Piloswine with an herb that heals burns in its mouth. Cyndaquil helps free Piloswine from the ice and Pikachu shocks it back to consciousness. Pryce and Piloswine reunite, leaving both crying and happy. As they leave the caver they run into Team Rocket, who Piloswine mops up with a Blizzard attack, Ash sends them flying with a Thunderbolt. We have a gym match folks!
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Piloswine.. What a buddy trying to help Pryce all those years ago and remembering his friend.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, not even that bad just no obvious contenders for this episode.
One thing I learned: Some loves don’t thaw so easily.
Who is that Pokémon?: Magneton, underrated and very useful… unless a ground type rolls up.
Best Quote: “Magmar, Fire Blast” – The minute the Magmar trainer said that in the flashback you knew it would be bad news for Pryce.
