Pokemon 13: Mystery at the Lighthouse

Pokemon Company

Airdate: June 24th, 1997

Summary:  Ash is once again staring at his badges, a beautiful segue to an exposition about his journey so far and the basics of the Pokémon League. Misty and Brock bring him down to earth, challenging him to catch another Pokémon. Ash is on a rampage, and engages with a tasty crab… I mean, Krabby, kookiikookii. A showdown at sunset results in Krabby being caught and, wait, where the hell is Krabby going? He’s gone to Professor Oak, so Ash calls to check on them, Professor Oak does love crab in his noodles. The gang stumbles on a lighthouse, and Brock offers up a burger for a phone call. The door opens, and this lighthouse turns out to be a sweet pad. Ash calls Professor Oak, Krabby isn’t cooked, but he is tiny compared to Gary’s. Bill hosts the gang, and Team Rocket decides to engage in some solo climbing. A Kabuto is on the throne, but it’s really just the eccentric young Bill. There are 150 Pokémon, but Ash has only gotten seven of them. Bill is on a quest to find the largest Pokémon, which Is a Dragonite, which isn’t the largest Pokémon, or the only one of its species, but that’s alright Bill. The Pokémon shows up, Team Rocket tries to blast it away for a reason I still don’t understand, luckily they get slammed by Dragonite. The gang still has no idea it is a Dragonite, isn’t this Bill guy supposed to know the shape of a Dragonite? Anyways, we leave Bill and his lighthouse and head towards Vermillion City.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Ash, he gets his Krabby.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Bill, this dude is supposed to be the rising star in the field of Pokémon research, and doesn’t know what a Dragonite looks like.

One thing I learned: Dragonite can get pretty big, or the sea can make distort ones figure tremendously.

Pikachu-o-meter: 2/5, Pikachu played little no role in this episode.

Best Quote: “Bill, do you think we will ever find all the Pokémon there are?”-Ash

Best Scene: Dragonite wading through the water. It’s crazy we have seen a Ho-Oh and a Dragonite thirteen episodes in.
