Airdate: June 17th, 1999
Summary: Ash and the crew bemoan how hot it is and hot out of shape they are while a storm brews sending them for cover. Lightning strikes, but a crew of Magnemite absorb the lightning. They meet Ethan and his Jolteon, who round up the Magnemite and drive them to power the island. Ethan numbers his Magnemite, and #6 is a real goof ball. Ethan takes Ash and the crew across the plain, and Ash gets to drive the wagon. The Pokémon Center has experienced a blackout and needs the Magnemite to charge the center. Team Rocket uses a magnet to pull Magnemite up to their balloon. Jolteon and Pikachu escape, but Arbok whacks Jolteon into Ethan who hurts his back. Ash sends Team Rocket flying. Ash steps up to the plate by wrangling the Magnemite and driving Tauros. Magnemite #6 strays from the path, and Ash has to work on wrangling those magnets Pokémon. Pikachu finds that it can wrangler the Magnemite with its electricity. Magnemite #6 is vibing, and is not trying to be held down by Ash. It turns out Team Rocket is using a new low-tech static contraption to generate a small magnet to attract #6. The Magnemite go to Team Rocket, but Magnemite #6 uses its own current to evolve into a Magneton and send Team Rocket flying. Ash gets the Magnemite to the Pokémon Center on time, and gets a partnership offer from Ethan. Ash declines, but learned a lot from the experience.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Magnemite #6, what a boss.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, they were extra rude this episode, and I don’t even know why. Maybe it’s that they are hurting those at the Pokémon Center as well.
One thing I learned: Electricity does grow on Magnemite
