Airdate: June 24th, 1999
Summary: The gang finally makes it to Trovitopolis. Team Rocket has set a trap, and the gang fall sin it but Team Rocket can’t capitalize. Our crew finds a tunnel which leads to the sewer system. While they are walking Ash hears a bell, gets tapped on the shoulder by Bulbasaur vines, but they think it is a monster. Ash sends out Bulbasaur, but after a quick Razor Leaf it gets swallowed into the sewer. Officer Jenny opens a manhole cover. They go to the mayor’s office, and he tries to silence the crew. It looks like plenty of property has been stolen from the city. The mayor is starting a cult of personality in the city, and even has his own statue and trademark. HE sends out a crew of mercenaries to eradicate whatever monster might be in the sewer. Team Rocket still hasn’t found their way out of the sewer. They are scared by the gang who flashes a flashlight on them, Togepi has disappeared! Luckily, Misty finds Togepi but she comes face to face with the monster who pulls her into the water. Ash reveals that he pulled out Muk, and Team Rocket don their best scary faces. Team Rocket is attacked by the mayor’s goon squad, and they run in fear. The mayor decides to seal the sewers until his election is over, and Ash wakes up. The monster is… a yoked Bulbasaur with a collar. They recognize that the Bulbasaur has the mayor’s insignia, and after bursting from the pipes, the mayor confronts his past with Bulbasaur. He threw Bulbasaur away when it wouldn’t evolve, and now is being publicly humiliated. Bulbasaur throws the mayor into the air, destroying his statue.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Muk, I always love a Muk appearance, what a good blob of toxic waste!
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: The Mayor, this dude is a certified megalomaniac.
One thing I learned: Don’t turn away from the things in your childhood which made you whole.
