Pokemon 171: Beauty and the Breeder

Pokemon Company

Airdate: October 19th, 2000

Summary: Brock is emailing Suzie, the same Suzie who gave Brock his Vulpix to train. Brock puts on his Sunday best, and Team Rocket is happy to be in a town that appreciates beauty. Brock is waiting with flowers and Vulpix in hand. Brock meets Suzie, gets offered to team up for the contest, and faints. Misty fawns over a blonde kid, Zane, and his Ninetales. Apparently, Zane and Suzie have been friends for a long time, they have their similarities and differences. Suzie thinks beauty is from the inside, and Zane thinks beauty is on the outside. Brock is down to defeat Zane totally, and win Suzie’s love. Team Rocket hijacks the first contestant’s spot in the contest, and appears from the bottom of the area in style. Brock has a weird feeling about Team Rocket, and Zane greets them. Officer Jenny runs in and calls team Rocket frauds, and they get thrown out her. Brock is super nervous before his showcase with Vulpix, and Team Rocket comes in with doctor costumes, and say Vulpix needs an exam. Team Rocket locks Zane and the other trainers who were tricked, and take their balloon with all of the stolen Pokémon. Noctowl sinks team Rocket, and Pikachu opens the lock. Team Rocket battles Ash, but Ninetales and Vulpix come in to take Team Rocket down. Brock realizes the connection Suzie and Zane have. Suzie and Brock decide to team up as a Breeder combo, Ash encourages Suzie to open a salon, and Brock swallows his pride to approve. Zane gives Brock a lot of praise, and says Brock is the best, what a consolation prize.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: James, for his quote and cool stylings.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Zane, for once I think Brock found his match but this man is in the way.

One thing I learned: Even when you root for brock, he never gets his way.

Who is that Pokémon?: Quagsire, not a big fan.

Best Quote: “And does James look hot or what?” -James

Best Scene: A Wobbuffet haircut.

  1. I think both Suzy and Zane were terrific after all in this. Besides, Ninetales was remarkably beautiful. If they ever do a sequel to Pokémon: Detective Pikachu with Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith again, I would sell my soul to see a real live Ninetales. Like that Snubbull that Ken Wantanabe had. Or Eevee/Flareon that Bill Nighy had.
