Pokemon 204: The Big Balloon Blow-up

Pokemon Company

Airdate: June 14th, 2001

Summary: Our heroes roll up on a crop circle, or is it a parking zone? No, it’s a hot air balloon landing zone. Ash’s gang meets up with a boy named Skylar, who is using the X on the ground as a target! Ash meets Skylar’s dad, who gives our group a Pikachu balloon in hopes of winning the hot air balloon ride. Ash learns that he can use Noctowl, and that Brock can use Crobat to win the competition. Team Rocket is daydreaming, but Meowth sees an opportunity to get a new balloon engine if they win the competition. Meowth wants to win the engine fair and square, and Jessie and James look for an advantage by cutting down many of the balloons before the race. The race is off and there are only a few balloons left in the sky, Ash and Skylar communicate that there are some underhanded tactics afoot. Meowth is boasting about his talent, while Jessie and James show their cheating cards. Team Rocket jumps ahead, but Meowth attacks Jessie and James but they subdue him so they can cheat more. Team Rocket uses an actual rocket (ironic), while Skylar and Ash both weather a storm front. The balloon’s flame goes out, but Cyndaquil comes to save the day and gets them on the right track. Team Rocket and Ash trade blows, but Ash as usual gets the final blow with a Noctowl and Pikachu combo that is unbeatable. After sending Team Rocket flying, our friends win the context and Skylar and his father get the engine. Everyone says their farewells and our friends move on down the road.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Meowth, he has so many weird, one-off dreams, but playing by the rules is honorable.

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Jessie and James, they are ruining Meowth’s quest for a fair victory, booo.

One thing I learned: Meowth has a heart, even if it’s almost always compromised.

Who is that Pokémon?: Remoraid, a good Pokemon, especially with its badass evolution.

Best Quote: “Correct if I am wrong but Meowth is a Pokemon right?” -James

Best Scene: Meowth’s conviction to play by the rules, him turning good is always a welcome sight.
