Summary: Ash is onto his second match of the preliminary round, but first he scouts his next opponent Jackson who is a bit… eccentric to say the least. Jackson uses his Poliwhirl versus Quilava, but trips on his own cape, and doesn’t give instructions, so Quilava wins. Ash calls Bulbasaur to join his team, and Ash runs into Jackson from New Bark Town on a call with Prof. Elm. Ash learns that Jackson has a Meganium, along with his Poliwhirl, he sounds like me if I grew up in this world.. Chikorita, Poliwhirl, great taste! Meanwhile, Bulbasaur and Squirtle try to get an apple, but Meganium crosses Vine Whips with it, causing a brawl between Meganium/Azumarill and Bulbasaur/Squirtle. Ash and Jackson run outside, but Harrison uses his Miltank to use Heal Bell and calm everyone down. Officer Jenny shows up but Harrison and Gary cover for them and say they were sparring. Gary insults Ash by saying that Ash is an amateur trainer because his Pokemon are fighting. James is criticized by Meowth and Jessie for taking too much time on his next bottlecap design, forcing him to create a Raikou’s bolt. The battle starts, Ash chooses Pikachu while Jackson chooses Azumarill, Quick Attack by Pikachu is dodged, and its Thunderbolt is countered by Bubblebeam. Azumarill uses Icy Wind to slow Pikachu down, and Iron Tail to hit Pikachu hard, but Pikachu grabs its tail and uses a close-range Thunder, Azumarill faints. Jackson sends his shiny Magneton out, who starts a Thunderbolt off between the electric Pokemon. Magneton dodges Pikachu and hits it with a Thunder Wave/Tri-Attack combo which ends it for our favorite electric mouse. Ash calls Cyndaquil, using a quick Flamethrower that is dodged by Magneton. Magneton sends a Thunder Wave that is countered by a Smokescreen, now both Pokemon are dodging each other. Magneton uses a Thunder Wave/Tri-Attack that gets Cyndaquil as well, what will Ash do to counter this? Ash only has Bulbasaur to count on. Jackson tries to use his Double Team/Thunder Wave trick but Bulbasaur’s Vine Whip clears Magneton before stopping Thunder Wave/Tri-Attack with a Razor Leaf and Leech Seed combo. Vine Whip clears it and now it is Meganium vs. Bulbasaur. These Grass-Pokemon are ready to go, swapping Razor Leafs. Then they trade Vine Whips, with Meganium having the strength advantages. They trade Body Slams/Vine Whips/ and Razor Leafs with Bulbasaur using speed and Meganium power. Both Pokemon are fighting to the absolute limit, ending with a dual Solar Beam which knocks both Pokemon out, leading to a draw. Ash advances on points and moves on to the next round… versus Gary! The match we have all been waiting for! Here we go!
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Squirtle, when he puts those Squirtle squad glasses on I feel something for the first time in a long time.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Jackson, good tie of Ash but you are a dweeb.
One thing I learned: Squirtle is still about that life.
Who is that Pokémon?: Azumarill, every year I like this Pokemon more and more. I do not like Azurill though.
Best Quote: “Throw it, lift and throw Bulbasaur to the ground. Body Slam Meganium!” – Jackson, a bit Cobra Kai of him but I like it.
Best Scene: Bulbasaur grabbing with Vine Whip and slamming Meganium.
