Pokemon 297: Which Wurmple’s Which?

Pokemon Company

Airdate: April 17, 2003

Summary: Our crew wakes up, but Ash and Pikachu are nowhere to be seen, resting at the Pokemon Center to wait for Treecko and Taillow. Nurse Joy comes out and tells Ash that Treecko is fine, she hands them off to Ash and he says sorry to them but they say they understand and eat some breakfast. Wurmple chows down, Ash says he is beginning his training while Max says that Steven Stone is Granite Cave. Max says it is on the other side of the island, Steven is looking for a stone there. Team Rocket are disguised as old folk loaning our crew fishing rods, Ash is skeptical, but Brock says fishing should be fun. Max tries to teach May how to fish, she catches an Octillery which lands right on her face. Octillery sends Wurmple out against Octillery, she struggles to call out a decent attack as it gets away. Ash reels in a Corphish, who comes right for May, Treecko, etc. Corphish’s Crabhammer hits Pikachu and it escapes into the water. Team Rocket peddles the Magikarp sub as they say they are right where they want them, they will pull in our crew and collect their Pokemon easily, yeah right! Team Rocket does hook Ash, but their pedals get stuck so they abandon ship. They grab Pikachu with a net, Treecko steps in with a Quick Attack that easily frees Pikachu. May has her Wurmple, Jessie says her Wurmple is cuter, and now we have a Wurmple off. Apparently Jessie’s Wurmple is getting a PhD, May’s is happier… Max says the only way we can settle this is by measuring them. They have the same height, weight, etc. Jessie and May battle with dueling String Shots, Treecko sends James flying into the Wurmple who get all jumbled up. May looks at Wurmple, who only eats a little food which warns her of the fact that Team Rocket has her Wurmple. Team Rocket tries to celebrate their escape with a cookie, Wurmple eats it which alerts James to the fact that this isn’t her Wurmple.. Jessie is delusional. Wurmple is afraid of Jessie, rubbing on James and tells Meowth that its trainer is.. “I’m still hungry,” here we go! May remembers all the things she has done with Wurmple and misses it, giving her the motivation to retrieve it. Our crew rolls up, saying she wants to exchange Wurmples. Both step forward to exchange Wurmples, Jessie grabs her Wurmple back and runs away to their balloon. Meowth dreams of Wurmple providing Giovanni with thread to fix his shirt.. James isn’t so sure as Taillow hits their balloon to drop them and grab May’s Wurmple back. Taillow uses Quick Attack on Seviper but its Haze is effective. Treecko helps Taillow, Cacnea jumps on James and uses a Pin Missile, Pikachu sends them flying with a Quick Attack/Thunderbolt combination. Wurmple eats a whole plate of food and crashes out per usual.

Best Trainer/Pokémon: Corphish, CORPHISH CORPHISH!

Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Team Rocket, bad plan and a bad result for Jessie who doesn’t have her Wurmple.

One thing I learned: Wurmple is always hungry!

Who is that Pokémon?: Espeon, sick Pokemon and I love Pokemon Colosseum… Next!

Best Quote: “They fell for it hook, line, and sinker” – Meowth, he has used this at least five times before in this series.

Best Scene: May embracing her Wurmple after missing it.
