Airdate: March 21, 2002
Summary: A Murkrow runs at our heroes, spotting Pikachu, who a Pokemon magician named Lily wants to use. Of course she has a magic show where she needs a Thunderbolt.. Now she is talking talking talking but all our friends can think of is how cool (Misty), hot (Brock), or friendly (Ash) she appears. Lily offers to use a spell on Misty, only for Spinarak to give her a web facial to her dismay… Misty and bug Pokemon do not mix. Lily seems to be using Murkrow to scout all of her ingredients for her spells, time to find a Parasect’s Stun Spore. Lily needs Ash to fight it, this is a call back to Ash fighting the Paras and using a little bolt, but as Pikachu gets Parasect to use a little spore, Team Rocket shows up. Lily is fascinated with Meowth.. So she can get dirt under its paws? Weird. Team Rocket is out on a cliff, Lily runs right at it to collect Meowth’s dirt and run, sending Team Rocket to their momentary demise. The last ingredient Lily needs to use a mind reader trick is finding the tears of an Aipom, who just waltzes out. Lily gives chase but Team Rocket gets Aipom first, along with her whole ingredient flow. Team Rocket finds out that they need Aipom’s tears to make the final solution, so James uses Rakugo… Standup.. All bad, Aipom is not impressed. Meowth runs a puppet show to no effect. Jessie does an emotional one act play.. aaaand Aipom is asleep. Our heroes catch up to Team Rocket and now we battle. Murkrow has a surprising Icy Wind attack that stops Arbok in their tracks, and Pikachu blasts off Team Rocket. Aipom laughs at the battle and Pikachu is able to collect its tears, how lucky. However, Lily’s spell turns Ash into a Pikachu, which Ash actually takes really well. Welp, I guess we will see if this is resolved next episode.
Best Trainer/Pokémon: Jessie and James, I loved the cosplay this episode, especially Jessie’s broomstick.
Worst Trainer/Pokémon: Lily, she was a bit annoying and pushy the entire episode, a bit over her skis here.
One thing I learned: A witch will use anyone and anything to acquire the ingredients to a spell.
Who is that Pokémon?: Dewgong, a grade A awesome Pokemon that I adore. Love it.
Best Quote: “This is too perfect, finding a cute little Meowth in the forest” – Lily, what does this witch not need? 250 ingredients aint enough.
Best Scene: James talking about his reading habit, I love when we learn a little tidbit about their former lives.
